Worth it?

Reupholster vs. buy new

It's the question everyone asks. The short answer: if the frame is solid, reupholstering usually gets you a better, longer-lasting result than buying new, and you keep the piece you already like.

Much of today's store-bought furniture uses lightweight frames and thin foam. An older piece with a hardwood frame, rebuilt and recovered, can outlast several cheap replacements. We'll always give you an honest opinion, sometimes new really is the smarter buy, and we'll tell you so.

Reupholstering makes sense when…

  • The frame is solid hardwood
  • The piece is comfortable or sentimental
  • You want a custom look or exact fabric match
  • It's a quality brand worth keeping
  • You'd pay more for comparable new furniture
